TEAMGROUP MP44 2TB, 7000MB/s Without A DRAM To Give
A New Maxio Controller Gives Speed Without A Cache
The extremely high bandwidth of PCIe 4.0 has created a whole ecosystem of DRAM-less NVMe SSDs that offer great performance and price. PCIe 3.0 did offer some models, but they couldn’t even dream of hitting sequential reads of up to 7400MB/s and writes of 7000MB/s. That is what the 2TB model of the TEAMGROUP MP44 can offer, the 4TB a bit faster and the lower capacity ones taking a serious hit on write speeds.
In testing the random writes and reads take a bit of a hit, not the slowest of the drives The FPS Review tested but definitely at the back of the pack. The drive also comes with a link to a SSD S.M.A.R.T. Tool which gives you information about the health, temperature and other attributes of the MP44, but it lacks a secure erase feature. The drive costs around $120 or so, which is a pretty amazing deal for 2TB of fast flashy storage.
The new TEAMGROUP MP44 SSD series is one of these new breeds of SSDs, offering very fast 7000MB/s of PCIe Gen4x4 NVMe performance, without a DRAM cache, relying on Host Memory Buffer and SLC cache, and a new Maxio controller and 3D TLC NAND Flash.
