Starfield Secrets Revealed … For Better Or Worse
Less Than A Month To Launch And You Go With Animated Shorts?
The three animated shorts released on Bethesda’s YouTube channel certainly have flavour to them, giving a peek into who populates The Settled Systems but they also leave one a bit unsettled. The current release date is September 6th, which is not all that far away at all. The choice to skip the game engine completely in the making of these movies at this time is a little odd, to say the least. Hopefully this was a purely aesthetic choice and nothing more.
The other news of interest about Bethesda’s upcoming space-based RPG comes from someone who spent an enormous amount of time going through all available video footage and has assembled what could well be the entire skill tree from Starfield. The list includes over five dozen different skills spread across physical, social, combat, science, and tech branches. In addition to the huge number of skills there seems to be a rank system too, which requires spending a certain amount of points in a branch before unlocking the next tier of skills to chose from.
The massive number of skills and the disparate things that they influence suggests that the worries about overreach in the scope of this game might be justified. Then again, perhaps you level up frequently and will end up with a variety of these skills rather quickly.
If what you want is more flavour, tone, some player motivation, then three new animated shorts released today might help. Each tells a short 2-3 minute story of a different character in Starfield's galaxy, as they attempt to resolve their deep yearning with spaceships. To which we can all relate.
