Microsoft has just acknowledged a graphics and mouse input performance issue with their March 1st, 2019 update for Windows 10. The “Known Issues” section of the update’s documentation, KB4482887, claims that users “may notice graphics and mouse performance degradation with desktop gaming when playing certain games, such as Destiny 2”.
Microsoft is working on a patch for the patch. For now, affected users must remove KB4482887.
While the update, which brings Windows 10 up to build 17763.348, contains several fixes, one that stands out is the addition of Retpoline for high-performance Spectre 2 mitigation. (Check out Tim's post on it.) It was a bit of a surprise when this update was released for the Windows 10 October 2018 update (rather than waiting a month until the April 2019 update). Further, even though it is added with the update, it is disabled by default and must be activated with a registry key. If this was the offending issue, then I would expect a registry flag to simply disable it as opposed to telling users to remove the entire update.
Of course, the cynic in me would find it hilarious if the offending branch/commit was the one responsible for “Updates time zone information for Chile” or “Addresses an issue that may prevent Internet Explorer from loading images that have a backslash () in their relative source path”. Something small and innocuous sounding.
Thankfully, I did not install the update, so I flipped Windows Update into “Paused” mode. (I am running Windows 10 Pro.) It’s probably a good idea to avoid this patch for a bit.

The answer is to just avoid
The answer is to just avoid Windows 10 entirely. Linux gaming FTW!!!
(But not really. Damn it.)

Typical M$, and with
Typical M$, and with everybody so dependent on their OS products most folks are Royally Screwed!
With all the politions talking about breaking up big tech companies M$’s name should be first on the list with their consumer OS division forced to be spun off as a separate company and not allowed to be forced tied into any Cloud Services or App Store/Other sorts of arrangements. Just provide an OS free of all that Spyware/Cloud/Other tie-ins for the OS that is provided to the Third Party PC/Laptop OEMs.
M$ only cares about its services and not really its OS, unless you are licensing its enterprise versions. It’s going to get even more forcy from the Lords in Redmond after 2020-2023 and everything but Windows 10 EOLed!
It’s just another round where the plebs’ PCs/Laptops get KOed by the KBs and really once Windows 10 is the only game in town yor PCs/Laptops will become little more than pricy cable boxes, so good luck with the cord cutting there if you are not willing or able to switch to some Linux Distro and game that way. Ah The Eternal BETA of the Redmond Kind!

Seriously and honestly. If
Seriously and honestly. If there was established nVidia support on MacOS I would dump Winblow$ long time ago. Sadly HS drivers are really dated and since Mojave there is no support at all. That’s that Pro feature by Apple… Of course MOS is not perfect, but it just works. Catastrophic “upgrades” happen once in a decade (if that) not once every week.
FFS Apple make-up with Greens so I can dump Disaster10* permanently and render IRAY on Mac.
* – and yes I’m aware of underlying irony because MacOS until not so long ago was called OS X. So let’s call it RedmondDisater10 ;P

Even Ed, For Microsoft, BOTT is advising taking the delay option and using windows 10 pro/above! Maybe Gamers should insist on OEMs of gaming PC/Laptops providing the Pro Edition of windows 10! And it very much Looks like it’s time for all OEM Gaming PCs/Laptops to come with windows 10 Pro as the standard where there is a least some delay options for Windows 10 Updates.
That twice Yearly Eternal Windows 10 BETA cadence does not mix well with Gaming, or any other PC/Laptop usage for that matter. But Update Forcing from Redmond is going to become even worse after the 2020-2023 time frame.
If you build your own and can not make use of Windows 7 then you already know that The Pro Option is the better option in this not so great world of Windows 10 with consumers used as BETA Testers for Redmond! Hell the better option would be Declaring M$ a public utility and regulating or even Breaking UP M$, the best option if they can not be declared a public utility and properly regulated as such.
The Windows 10 OS/Ecosystem is going to become more like the cable company ecosystem starting in 2020/Beyond and that’s Redmond’s end game for consumers. The Lords of Redmond Claim that it’s for security, all that forcing, but what did Benjamin Franklin have to say about giving ones liberty up to all that forcing in the Name of “Security”!
