For now we are awaiting the benchmarks but with the release of this new kernel, Linux users will be able to run the new RX 480 from AMD. The new kernel also contains a new security feature called LoadPin which ensures that kernel-loaded files come from within the same file system in an attempt to maintain security without requiring each file to be individually signed. There were also some improvements made to network drivers along with several other changes which The Inquirer covers in their own unique manner.
"Despite it being two weeks since RC7, the final patch wasn't all that big and much of it is trivial one- and few-liners. There's a couple of network drivers that got a bit more loving."

Now I am running Linux Kernel
Now I am running Linux Kernel 4.6.2 in Manjaro Gnome/Cinnamon/LXQt and 4.5.7 in Manjaro Deepin.
I will try 4.7.x in August/September.
I will also test Manjaro KDE 5.7 with 4.7.x kernel in virtualbox in August.
Manjaro Linux is a rolling release distro so it is easy to change the kernel.
Rolling release doesn’t mean
Rolling release doesn’t mean that you can easily switch kernels, but you can easily change the kernel in almost any distribution anyway..
Well better wait for the
Well better wait for the Phoronix results, as that Inquirer bloke has been licking on some tiny dancing bear stamps he got by the sheet at some Concert/LASAR light venue! The Faster we go the Rounder we get and Kitty can’t lick any jewels that Kitty don’t have anymore! But what the hell does that have to do with the latest Linux Kernel build and the RX 480!

Anyway, AMD engineers can see why their driver is not working by looking at the output from the dmeg command.
It will be very helpful when Laptops are running Linux with AMD or Nvidia drivers loaded by the Linux kernel.
I’m waiting for some
I’m waiting for some Intel/Nvidia/windows 10 FREE(as in none of those 3 makers products) Zen/Polaris laptops from system 76/Other Linux OS OEMs and that includes Zen/Polaris APUs with the option for a discrete Polaris mobile GPU to pair with the APU’s integrated graphics. I’ll take all the integrated and discrete GCN ACE units that can be crammed into a Linux OS Based laptop because windows 10 is not an option for me. Hopefully both AMD and the Linux OS based laptop OEMs are listening because windows 10, Intel, and Nvidia means no sale! I want affordable without being forced to eat Intel’s dog-food graphics, and Nvidia wants too much money. M$ can kiss may shiny close to the metal A$$ as that Bloatware/Spyware/Ad pushing POS windows 10 will never get near my PC/Laptop hardware!

Judging from AMD’s amdgpu
Judging from AMD’s amdgpu driver page, you can run it on 4.2 as well.
I’ve been using RX 480 with
I’ve been using RX 480 with kernel 4.4 (Ubuntu 16.04) with and without AMDGPU-PRO driver. Mixed results though. OpenGL is sluggish (800 fps open source/1200 fps GPU-PRO for glxgears.. yes I know it’s not a benchmark!) but wine gaming sucks @ss.
The Gears on Gallium Polaris release kicks ass but the live installer is broken (8000+ fps on glxgears) and wine gaming is superb (120+ fps COH original built-in performance test), 30-70fps Metro Last Light.
So I’m looking forward to a 4.7 release to make things a hella-lot easier, had much screwing around trying to get things going.
Sorry that should say 3000
Sorry that should say 3000 fps with AMDGPU-PRO on Ubuntu, not 1200 fps
