DX12 API support has arrived for the new Lara Croft game, for those with the hardware and software to support it. For AMD users that means Fury or 300 family cards, which offer DX12.0 support and for NVIDIA, 980 Ti and all other Maxwell GPUs which offers 12.1 as well as 12.0. The difference in support is likely because of the game, not the hardware in this case. [H]ard|OCP takes a look at how well the cards perform in both DX11 and DX12 and as it turns out the warning below is very accurate and perhaps you should wait for a few more driver updates and game patches before switching over to DX12.
"Rise of the Tomb Raider has recently received a new patch which adds DX12 API support, in addition the patch adds NVIDIA VXAO Ambient Occlusion technology, however just under DX11. In this evaluation we will find out if DX12 is beneficial to the gameplay experience currently and how it impacts certain GPUs."

Oh, DX12 is worse than DX11?
Oh, DX12 is worse than DX11? Big shocker.
There is ALWAYS
There is ALWAYS something…Im gettin´really tired of some of the nuances of PC gaming. We pay thousands of dollars on gaming rigs, and we end up with buggy, unfinished, unoptimized products. And of course, there is no one to blame. New API, HYPE HYPE HYPE, but then developers don´t know jack about how to use it or take advantage of it. Graphics cards manufacturers, both red and green team, always on the “driver race” and by the time we get some decent drivers, a new new version of DX will come, or some other architectural change will make things go to hell again.
Sure consoles at 900p and 30fps suck MAYOR balls, but then again, there is a LOT not to worry about, and a lot less money to invest.
Sorry for the little rant, but gaming industry nowadays just pisses me off.

The blog goes on to explain how this is accomplished and how it can improve framerates on CPU limited situations. We are testing GPUs and are always looking for GPU limited situations, and if DX12 is only being used to benefit CPU limited situations then we are likely to not see much benefit, at least in the case of Rise of the Tomb Raider.
This should have been pointed out first.
