The Oryx Pro is the opposite of most of the laptops you have seen reviewed here recently. At 15.2×10.7×1.1" and 5.5lbs it is bulkier than the slim laptops dominating the market, not to mention the 2lb power brick. It also runs Ubuntu 16.04 LTS as opposed to Win10, thankfully the install is well configured for the hardware present according to the review at Ars Technica. The hardware on the other hand is familiar and rather impressive, a desktop class GTX 1060, an i7-6700HQ, 32GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. The model reviewed at Ars runs you almost $1900 or there is a 17" model, as well as a GTX 1070 upgrade available if you so desire. "System76 has a decent range of laptops, from the small, lightweight, battery-sipping Lemur to the top-end beast-like Oryx Pro. And after recently reviewing the svelte, but not necessarily top-end-specced Dell XPS 13, I got curious about this Oryx Pro. On paper, it sounds like a desktop machine somehow packed into a laptop form factor"

The very New York nanosecond
The very New York nanosecond that System76/any others gets any of AMD’s Zen/Polaris or more likely Zen/Vega APU SKU based products and Linux OS based laptop SKUs, I will go directly there dressed as Philip J Fry with a big wad of cash and tell them to shut up and take my money!
I had hoped that System76 would get some Bristol Ridge based laptop SKUs, but that does not appear to be happening! I need and will pay($$$) for any OEM laptop that comes out of the box running a full Linux OS distro that does not have any Intel/Nvidia(No Intel or Nvidia) SOCs/Graphics and NO M$ windows 10 OS!
I want some Monopoly free(no Intel, M$, Nvidia SKUs) OEM made laptop choices that run some full Linux OS distros!
Poor Jeremy the Canadian,

Not poor Canadian, it’s hard
Not poor Canadian, it’s hard to go in the poor house due to medical expenses there in maple leaf land! The real poor is going to be healthcare south of his border. Thanks giving is not so hot now! Here’s something for Canada to consider the more educated immigrants that Canada takes the more high tech businesses it will attract/create. Nothing rhymes with orange and down here high technology was mostly invented by immigrants. Many of those that helped make the technology that won WW2 where immigrants fleeing the same types that will be in control in some regions next “Thanks Giving”!
I’m having fish from Finland for thanks giving next year with vegetables from South America, wheat/bread from Canada and Belgian beer from the many fine Belgium beer makers.
P.S. those of you that are US college students make sure you vote to raise the price of your colleges’ football/basketball/baseball tickets to $300.00 a game for any non students and use the extra money for science programs.
