NVIDIA GPU PhysX acceleration
NVIDIA GPU PhysX acceleration is not available if there is a non-NVIDIA graphics processor in the system, even if it is not used for rendering.
Keep supporting this attitude everybody.
Does this mean if there is an
Does this mean if there is an Intel IGPU on the CPU Physx doesn’t work?
on a desktop generally intel
on a desktop generally intel gpu is disabled so shouldn’t
DSR support for Fermi?
DSR support for Fermi? Nice!
Disabling PhysX due to non-Nvidia GPU hardware? So my Intel HD4000 will disable PhysX? No? So what does that mean? Oh wait, you mean ONLY AMD GPUs? Yeah, that’s some bullsh*t right there. I would hope that PCPer, with its intimate connections to Nvidia’s staff, would make it clear that they won’t support or condone such tactics. One would hope, anyway.
Don’t let Peterson off the
Don’t let Peterson off the hook with a non-answer, either.
In full agreement.
In full agreement.
Come on, Ryan will cower at
Come on, Ryan will cower at the thought of Tom Petersen un-following him on social media.
That bit needs
That bit needs clarification.
I understood that if you do not have a nVidia GPU card, the PhysX won’t be available as it’s a nVidia GPU component only.
I do not think that the Intel HD4000 would disable PhysX on a nVidia GTX760 or any of the “X” series as nVidia is a great partner with Intel. Also, all newer CPU/APU has integrated GPU. So it wouldn’t make any sense.
If I understood correctly, perhaps that statement should be “NVIDIA GPU PhysX acceleration is available on nVidia graphics processor only”.
That statement is direct from
That statement is direct from NVIDIA, not paraphrased by myself.
Yeah, it’s direct from the
Yeah, it’s direct from the release notes. If what NVIDIA meant was, “NVIDIA GPU PhysX acceleration is available on nVidia graphics processor only.”, then NVIDIA sure went out of its way to NOT make it clear.
Jeremy, I wasn’t stating that
Jeremy, I wasn’t stating that you paraphrased it incorrectly. With these release notes, there’s bound to have some ambiguous information. I simply understood it differently.
And as “nathanddrews” mentioned, I am becoming skeptical of that statement.
Hope to see better clarification on that statement in the near future. (from nVidia, of course) And in the meantime, perhaps some pcper test benchmarks on that statement.
and as a certain vendor
and as a certain vendor directly pointed out to me, this is not a new thing. It has been going on for so many versions now that people seem to have forgotten this. Then again many people have forgotten about PhysX as well.
Yeah, it’s direct from the

Out of everything in that
Out of everything in that release, you choose the same PhysX bullshit that has been that way for multiple driver releases now.
Way to go AMD Fanboy.
I will look at this from
I will look at this from another view point, Nvidia doesn’t want to be doing support for systems with competitors gpus in it.
People will say that won’t be the case but it would be when something doesn’t work. From a person that works in customer support, I know how DUMB people can be.
I’m happy that i’m finally
I’m happy that i’m finally back to supporting AMD after the last year of trying out a GTX 780. An crap like this is the kinda reason why i’m never giving Nvidia money again..
I haven’t seen one thing that Nvidia has done to really help all gamers in general.
Nvidia: dear customer, thanks
Nvidia: dear customer, thanks for buying our product, here are some neat exclusive technologies for you to play with. we help developers to implement our tech so you can use it more often.
Customer: what what what? some of your tech will not work for rivals products and their customers? f*ck you I will never buy your product again, I rather support your rivals for spite and not have all of my in-game options available.
You mean all there software
You mean all there software options that can be had with 3rd party apps or did you mean the specific hardware options Nvidia has to pay game developers to add-in as extra?
I meant everything that is
I meant everything that is exclusive, be it driver level or in-game features.
amusingly you rather pay AMD for nothing, so go back to mess about with them hassle infested, limited 3rd party tools / injectors and enjoy your DX9 at its glory with ongoing tweakfest or secured multiplayer ban risk floating around.
also, if Nvidia pays game developers for its customers to better enjoy their products, they deserve my appreciation even more so.
AMD does nothing for their own customers, so yea go ahead and support that full on open-standard BS, as if it were of actual value to you as a customer.
So much for my dreams of
So much for my dreams of using my old GTX 460 to turn electricity into PhysX and heat…
I doubt it, but maybe it’s an OS+driver compatibility limitation? Blame Microsoft? Nah…my guess is that it’s superficial marketing and exclusivity nonsense.
Theoretically, one could have an Intel, AMD, and nVidia GPU installed in the same system. Intel offers features like Quick Sync that require one to enable their IGP. What about AMD’s True Audio, etc. I guess nVidia just expects those people to reboot and change their BIOS setting based on what programs they want to run. Maybe that will be worked into future versions of the GFE app? /s
I thought there was that tech
I thought there was that tech virtual logic or lucid something that allowed the use of both amd-nvidia within same system.
