DDR5 And PCIe 5.0 Will Cost You

Graphics card prices may get most of the headlines but if you’ve been pricing out a new system build you may well have noticed motherboard prices have jumped at least as much, if not more.  The MSI MEG X670E ACE is an example of this, selling for $728 on Amazon at the time of writing.  That may seem quite high, but represents the higher end of the middle of the pack, after all the MSI X670E GODLIKE will run you $1300!

That investment gets you a board with a solid electrical system, 22 + 2 + 1 Duet Rail Power System and a 90A power stage, all the components of which have their own heatsinks.   The storage system includes six SATA 6 Gb/s connectors, and four PCIe 5.0  M2 slots fitting up to 2280 sized M2 devices, one of which is populated by a WiFi 6 card.  In addition to WiFi you also get 10G LAN thanks a Marvell AQC113CS-B1-C NIC.

The FPS were impressed with the performance, apart from the fact that Windows 11 doesn’t have a driver for the NIC on setup, and of course, that price.  Check it out in full here.

The MSI MEG X670E ACE is based on AMD’s new X670E chipset. This is the top-of-the-line chipset from AMD, falling above the X670, B650E, and B650 chipsets. With this chipset, you are receiving PCIe 5.0 for not only the NVMe but also for the main PCIe slots, with an additional 16 total PCIe 5.0 lanes.
