Upgrade Your Steam Deck With The Team Group MP44S 1TB SSD
Add Storage To Anything That Can Handle M.2 2230 Or 2242
The Team Group MP44S isn’t your average SSD, as it is specifically designed for handheld gaming devices like the Steam Deck or the ASUS ROG Ally. The NVMe 1.4 M.2 2230 drive offers PCIe Gen 4 x4 connectivity provided by the Phison PS5021-E21 and while it lacks DRAM it does have a 64 MB Host-Memory-Buffer. TechPowerUp didn’t have a tiny console handy so they tested it in a full PC, since it will fit in with no issues.
The SLC cache on the drive is a fair size, their sustained copy test ran at a nice 4 GB/s, which plummeted precipitously after 231 GB but honestly how many games would be able to fill that cache? The sequential reads hit 5GB/s though thermal throttling is a thing on this tiny drive and you may see that drop, though again the drive should finish loading your level before that becomes too much of a concern.
The two versions of the Team Group MP44S, 1TB and 2TB, come in at $78 and $180, just under $0.08/GB, while Steam charges you about $140/TB … not that there is a 1TB Steam Deck for sale to begin with. With prices like that, you could save a lot of money on the gaming device by upgrading after the fact!
The Team Group MP44S SSD is a storage solution designed specifically for the Valve Steam Deck and other similar handheld devices. Offering capacities of up to 2 TB, it provides ample space for expanding gaming storage. Our in-depth review covers performance, thermals, power consumption and more.
