Fly The Friendly Skies Of Arrakis For Free
Or Fly An Ornithopter Over Earth If You Prefer
While it’s not the first movie tie in that Microsoft Flight Simulator has offered, Dune is perhaps not what you expected to be the second. This required Microsoft to not only skin the Royal Atreides Ornithopter but come up with physics for it. The entirety of Arrakis hasn’t been mapped, as of yet, instead you get to try your hand at five time trials and a rescue mission once you master the controls. If you prefer, you can see how a variety of earthly vehicles perform on Arrakis instead.
If you do fall in love with the Ornithopter, then you can bring it to Earth and confuse other pilots and flight controllers as you tour the skies. There is also a contest to win a very fancy Xbox Series S if you want to check it out. The best part of all, the expansion is completely free.
The dune expansion was announced in June last year alongside the announcement for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, the "next generation" of the sim, which plans to add a full suite of aerial jobs including search and rescue, aerial firefighting, air ambulance, helicopter cargo transport, crop dusting, and more.
