CES hasn't officially kicked off, but you can't tell that from the emails! As the ball starts rolling we are seeing some hints about the products which companies will be showing off, such as Samsung's new CRG9, UR59C gaming displays as well as the Space Monitor.
First off is the CRG9, a 49" 5120×1440 FreeSync2 display with a 32:9 aspect ratio with a top refresh rate of 120Hz and an HDR 10 rating. It sports an 1800mm screen curvature and a quoted 4ms response time to help with motion blur in addition to the features offered by FreeSync2. The monitor is actually designed as if it were a pair of 27" 1440p 16:9 displays, which allows you to toggle to a PIP mode which allows you to display two completely separate video sources on the display simultaneously at that size and resolution; or go full screen for gaming.
The UR59C is somewhat smaller, a 31.5" 4K display with a 1500R curvature; no idea about the inconsistent curvature description. With a total depth of 6.7mm this monitor should be able to fit on desktops which don't have the space for the CDG9.
Last, but not least is the Space Monitor series, which offers an interesting stand that clamps to your table. It allows you to lower the monitor to be flush with your desktop or raise it completely vertically to give you more desk space. It will be available in 27" 1440p or 32" 4K models, both with the Zero Height Adjustable Stand.
That Clamp On Monitor is nice
That Clamp On Monitor is nice I’m definitely going to look at that when it’s RTM!
You can just buy the arm
You can just buy the arm itself to work with your current monitor or any future upgrades, I used them and they are great, About £35 IIRC. They clamp to the desk edge like in the pic but are more adjustable.
With this new model there is
With this new model there is a slot in the back of the monitor so the arm is actually flush with the back of the monitor when fully raised. Kind of a neat idea for those who want it pushed right up against the wall.

Using diagonal measure for such wide aspect ratios is getting a bit bogus. While it would be nice to not have a bezel in middle of the screen, this thing would probably be painful to move anywhere compared to two 27 inch displays. Also, if I am buying a new display, I definitely want it to be able to display a full 4k frame on screen. That is a bit short at 1440 vs 2160 for a 4k display. I have seen quite a few people just using small TVs instead of computer displays for gaming. You would loose a little horizontal resolution compared to this display, but you get a lot more vertical display area. You get more overall pixels with a 4k display, but not a huge amount. The tv makers will be pushing 8k displays soon. I would rather have better hdr than 8k though. It is probably a lot easier to do higher resolution than it is to hit even full HDR10 levels of contrast and brightness, so we will probably get useless 8k instead.
So the 32×9 1440p monitor
So the 32×9 1440p monitor blows my fucking mind. Now, correct me if in wrong, but that is slightly less pixel than 4k, only slightly. So……
Question fir the room, would you get the same performance on the same hardware with this or a 4k monitor, or does that extreme resolution create complications that require more horsepower?
The only complication is that
The only complication is that some games refuse to run at such wide aspect ratios. In that case they will run with black bars on the sides of the picture. Any game with multi monitor support should be fine though. As far as rendering goes pixels are pixels. This is basically just two 1440 by 2560 monitors glued together. It is about 7/8s the number of pixels as 4k so amd really doesn’t have a suitable card to drive it currently.
The last screen with that
The last screen with that mount.. VERY nice.
as for the 49 incher, eager to hear how much it costs..
