100% Pure Unobtanium, But Still Nifty; The RTX 3090 Ti Reviews Arrive
Let’s Go All Out With The ASUS GeForce RTX 3090 Ti STRIX LC Liquid Cooled Card
If you are going to check the reviews of the new RTX 3090 Ti, why not start with an overclocked and liquid cooled model? The MSRP is a mere $2200 and while the Core clock and memory frequencies remain unchanged at 1560MHz and 1313MHz, the Boost clock has a 90MHz overclock to run at 1950 MHz. For reference, a non-Ti RTX 3090 had a Core of 1395MHz, Boost of 1695MHz and memory of 1219MHz so on paper the Ti looks like it should be better; it has to be almost $700* better to make sense however.
TechPowerUp has some gorgeous shots of the PCB you can check out, even if you’d rather not see how the ASUS GeForce RTX 3090 Ti STRIX LC performs. If you do want to know, they compared the new card to everything from an RTX 2080 Ti to an RX 6900 XT. The first answer is no, it will not let you play non-Ray Traced Cyberbunk 2077 at 4K and get a solid 60FPS without lowering some detail settings. If you fire up all the Ray Tracing features on that game, expect around 50FPS at 1440p and 25FPS at 4K, with other titles being very playable, apart from Watch Dogs: Legion that is.
If you are looking to overclock then there is good news, TPU hit an average Core clock of 2214 MHz and memory of 1500 MHz. You will need to make sure you can provide at least 516W to this beast. That still doesn’t do much for the performance per dollar but overall the RTX 3090 Ti is the best of the best on the market for high resolution gaming.
*though finding an RTX 3090 for $1499 is impossible right now; under $2000 a challenge in patience and luck!
With the ASUS STRIX LC, ASUS is betting big on their liquid cooled thermal solution. The card itself is more compact than other RTX 3090 Ti models, because the cooling magic happens in the radiator. A large factory overclock is included, too, and the power limit adjustment range goes up to 525 Watt.
