Windows 11 Comes To Intel 11th Gen Core Systems
With Windows 10 Going Away, More Systems Can Blast Off To Windows 11
If you’ve ever tried to update a Rocket Lake system to Windows 11, you know it’s not a great idea. The Intel Smart Sound Technology tech found on many 11th gen Core processors was not compatible with the version that came with Windows 11 21H2. The incompatibility caused a BSoD and generally lead to tears all around. Microsoft have finally got around to fixing the incompatibility and are pushing version 10.30.00.5714 or 10.29.00.5714 via Windows Update.
Your system will pick and install the correct version, and once installed the upgrade to Windows 11 will no longer be blocked. Windows 10 goes the way of the Dodo on October 14, 2025, so you can hold off for a bit longer if you do so desire. If you do chose to update, be aware you will be going straight to Windows 11 23H2, as previous versions have been deprecated.
Still no luck for first generation Threadrippers though.
"Intel and Microsoft have found incompatibility issues with certain versions of drivers for Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST) on Intel 11th Gen Core processors and Windows 11," the company said at the time.
