It’s Super Tuesday! The NVIDIA RTX 4070 SUPER Version Of It Anyway

The Founders Edition And Zotac’s Take On The RTX 4070 Super Too

Today we finally get to see the actual performance of the RTX 4070 Super, as opposed to what NVIDIA let us see on their slides.  The card uses the same AD104 chip as the non-Super RTX 4070 but has 20% more CUDA cores, 10 more RT cores, 12MB larger L2 cache, 40 more Tensor cores and slight increases on ROPs, TMUs and frequencies.  This also sees a 10% increase in power consumption and don’t forget you will want at least a 650W PSU which supports 12VHPWR.

As you would hope, the RTX 4070 Super outperforms the non-Super version, especially in ray traced benchmarks and when you add DLSS it surpasses it by a larger margin.  As far as AMD goes, the RX 7800XT now has competition as the RTX 4070 Super beats it across the board, unlike the non-Super version.  The price is also decent as far as releases today go, the RTX 4070 starts around $550 right now while the RX 7800 XT can be yours for around $520.  The $600 MSRP of the new Founders Edition seems reasonable if you are in love with ray tracing, otherwise it’s hard to justify the extra spend over the RX 7800 XT.

Today we also get to see what third party vendors can do with the new GPU as well as how much longer they can make the name.  The FPS Review compares the Zotac RTX 4070 SUPER Trinity Black Edition to NVIDIA’s Founders Edition here.  They took advantage of the IceStorm 2.0 and FireStorm Utility to overclock the card, bumping the power up as high as it would go.  That resulted in a 10% clock speed overclock, 14% on the memory and that pushed the Zotac card even further beyond the Founders Edition.

The benchmarks also reveal something interesting both at The FPS Review as well as in Sebastian’s testing, even without overclocking the Zotac version outperforms the Founders Edition.  This suggests if you are on the fence about picking up an RTX 4070 Super you should definitely take a look at the other vendors below.  At stock speeds, the third party cards are a better value … at $600 anyway.
